Christmas in Cornwall – What's On?

Our mesmerising county is about to transform into a coastal winter wonderland, with many go-to attractions getting into the festive spirit in style throughout December. You’ll find everything from Christmas markets to traditional festivals, Santa steam train journeys, and seasonal concerts, with plenty more to boot! Here’s a look at some of the highlights. 

Christmas at the Eden Project (2nd - 30th)

Eden’s biomes never fail to impress, especially when illuminated with the vibrant colours of Christmas. The internationally renowned landmark will host a plethora of events and attractions in the lead-up to the big day. Immerse yourself in the wonders of the twinkling med biome, discover the rainforest biome’s illuminated waterfall, go ice skating, and listen to festive classics performed live. Fowey Christmas Market (2nd - 3rd)

Fowey is home to one of Cornwall’s most loved Christmas markets, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to the harbour town each year. The streets come alive with festive merriment, stalls, live music, and a delicious smorgasbord of local produce. Santa at Lappa Valley Steam Railway (3rd - 24th)

All aboard the Santa Express! This nostalgic steam railway journey will pass through the winter countryside and promises a visit from Santa and his elves in the Christmas grotto. You’ll get to meet and have photos with the one and only Rudolph, too. There’ll also be traditional music from the fairground organ, rides, indoor soft play, and more. Book tickets here. 

Heartlands Christmas Market & Santa's Grotto (3rd - 4th)

The opening weekend in December welcomes the Heartlands Christmas Market, with a dazzling array of stalls selling local crafts and tasty treats. There’ll be a roster of entertainment throughout the two days, and the big man himself is set to make an appearance and give out gifts. What’s more, entry to the market is free! Santa at Bodmin & Wenford (3rd - 24th)

Hop aboard a Christmas train and take in the sights and sounds of Cornwall’s heritage steam railway. Meet Santa and his elves at Bodmin General station before boarding the steam train to Bodmin Parkway. There’ll be plenty of festive activities to enjoy along the way, including the chance to get a gift and a photo with Santa on his Victorian coach. Find out more here. 

Falmouth Festive Weekend (10th - 11th)

Back for a second year, the Falmouth Town team has planned a spectacular array of activities for everyone to enjoy. Get a seat on the Festive Land Train, skate on the artificial ice rink, peruse festive stalls, and marvel at fairground attractions. There will be live choirs, local bands, curling, and a snow globe, too. And that’s not all – Miracle Theatre’s Christmas grotto will host the big man in red himself. Find further details here. 

Mousehole Christmas Lights (12th - 6th)

The twinkling Christmas lights that adorn Mousehole harbour are among the finest you’ll find anywhere. Lose yourself in the charms of this cherished fishing village and admire a cascade of colours that dance across bobbing boats and along winding cobbled streets. There will be a staggered switch-on this year, starting on Monday 12th until everything is illuminated on Saturday 17th. Sink into a window seat at the Ship Inn and enjoy a warming bite to eat and drink while you’re there. 

Christmas at Truro Cathedral (17th)

Truro’s glorious cathedral has an impressive calendar of festive events to check out. From showcasing some of Cornwall’s most impressive young music talent across a series of carol concerts to Father Christmas’ grotto, and beautiful light displays on general opening days, it’s a destination not to be missed. Montol Festival (21st)

This unique arts and community festival takes over Penzance each year and celebrates the midwinter solstice with a mystical showing of Cornwall’s traditions of the past. The festival culminates on Montol Eve, December 21st. Follow the parade through town and, for the full experience, don some mock formal wear and a mask.
