Fishermans Arms reopens for business

The historic pub – which is part of our tenanted estate - was almost destroyed by a fire in February 2019, which gutted the building.

The Fisherman’s Arms, which is believed to date back to the mid 18th-century, has new tenants too - Nick George, Jack Shannon, and English professional rugby union player, Jack Nowell. This is Jack’s second Newlyn pub, having also bought his childhood local - the Swordfish Inn – back in 2018.

At Saturday’s grand opening, the new tenants were joined by locals, representatives from St Austell Brewery, and Pat Plumbridge MBE. Pat, who raised a toast to the pub’s new chapter, is well-known in Newlyn having been the former landlady. She’s lived in the fishing village, next door to the pub, for over six decades.

Clive Greene, Head of Tenanted Operations said:

“We’re really delighted to be celebrating the reopening of the Fisherman’s Arms, after the catastrophic fire almost four years ago.

The trading space has been completely refurbished and expanded, with an upstairs restaurant and a new outdoor balcony overlooking the harbour. Many of the pub’s traditional interior features have been restored, with plenty of links to Newlyn’s history on display."

He continued: “I know how much it means to the local community to be back together again at this very special pub, just in time for Christmas.”
