We've raised £20,000 during Walk All Over Cancer month
W e’re delighted to have raised £20,000 for charity by taking part in three sponsored walks during March - Walk All Over Cancer Month.
The events - which happened in Bath, Exeter, and Cornwall - were arranged in memory of Jim Sloan, our head of tenanted operations, who sadly passed away in 2022. All the money raised has been equally split between two causes close to Jim’s heart, Cancer Research UK and Only a Pavement Away - a charity which works with people facing homelessness, prison leavers, and veterans, to help place them into long-term, stable employment in hospitality.
Those who didn’t take part in the three walks set themselves a variety of individual challenges too - cycling, running, and rowing as many miles as possible.
Kevin Georgel, Chief Executive, St Austell Brewery said:
“It’s a proud feeling to see teams across our business come together to raise such an impressive total for two great causes, and in tribute to our dear friend Jim.
“Jim was held in the highest esteem across the pub industry and is sorely missed by all of us who knew and worked with him. It was our privilege to be joined by Jim’s family and friends on our final walk from Fowey to St Austell too, who raised a huge amount through their fundraising.
“A big ‘thank you’ must go to everyone who has taken part, donated, and supported the walks this month. It has been a truly collective effort from everybody involved.
“We would also like to thank our suppliers who supported us so generously, Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company, Cornish Coffee, Brian Etherington Meat Company, WestCountry Food, and Encirc Glass.”
Sophie Barber, Relationship Manager, Cancer Research UK – who attended St Austell Brewery’s Visitor Centre for a cheque presentation on Saturday - added:
“I am blown away by the amazing generosity of everyone who has donated to Cancer Research in memory of Jim. Friends, family, colleagues, and suppliers have all come together to raise an incredible total which will go towards funding life-saving research. On behalf of the charity, I can’t thank everyone enough.”
