Spooky beer pairings for the grownups this Halloween

If the days of trick or treating are behind you, chances are you’ll be enjoying a beer or two instead this Halloween. That being said, there’s still an opportunity to join in the with the ghostly themed fun – just check out the following beer pairings. From pumpkin risottos to ubiquitous chocolate choices, here are some of our favourite treats to match with our brews.

Mena Dhu

Our unique stout is the perfect match for chocolate. Mena Dhu (4.5% abv) translates as ‘black hill’ in Cornish; while the name might sound ominous, it’s actually named after the farm that was owned by Walter Hicks, the founder of St Austell Brewery. A blend of six malt types delivers an oak-smoked aroma with hints of liquorice and dark chocolate on the palate. It’s a distinctive, modern flavour based on a traditional recipe. Complex and flavoursome, yet light and refreshing.

Nothing in the culinary world says ‘Halloween’ quite like the pumpkin. Once you’ve finished carving yours, it’s safe to say you’ll have plenty to find use for in the kitchen. There’s nothing scary about a pumpkin soup or curry when paired with korev – it’s delicious, and we’re sure you’ll be heading back for more. A lager brewed in the Helles style, korev (4.8% abv) has a clean, crisp taste that results in a delicate, bitter finish. The name ‘korev’ translates as ‘beer’ in Cornish.

Tribute

Our flagship pale ale is a must for pumpkin pie, toffee apples, and anything with a touch of cinnamon. Light, zest, and easy-drinking, Tribute (4.2% abv) is brewed with Cornish Gold and Maris Otter malts, with specially sourced hops from Slovenia and the USA. Fresh orange and grapefruit flavours are balanced with a characterful, malty base.
